Adopt a Singer, Alto 1: Shauna McFadden
Shauna McFadden joined the OCWC in 2014, and says, “I enjoy it because I really like the challenge of performing interesting, eclectic music from all styles and eras. Eliza is a wonderful director, and I have learned so much about good choral singing tone and articulations! I’ve made wonderful friends in the Chorus, and I enjoy traveling to new and exciting places with the OCWC.”
Shauna is a structural engineer at Boeing, where she has worked for 28 years; right now she supports the 737 aircraft – keeping them flying all over the world. Before becoming an engineer, Shauna played music for a living. With a bachelor’s degree in music (French Horn performance), Shauna expanded her repertoire and has played in a rock band, a country western band, a symphony orchestra, a pit orchestra, a woodwind quintet, a jazz band, an Irish band—even a bagpipe band! She sings in her church choir, and has also composed and arranged music.
Shauna loves learning languages and has studied French, Spanish, German, Italian, Hebrew, and Greek. “Good training for singing in the OCWC–because we sing in all these languages, and more! I would like to learn Russian (and travel to Russia),” she says. Shauna is passionate about keeping fit, eating right and exercising. She loves to bike, ski, do cross-fit and practice yoga.
Shauna was born in Canada, but moved to California when she was a baby. She currently lives with her wife, Shanna, and her three cats; Allie, Abby and Connie.
