The OCWC will hold auditions for new singers in August 2017. We encourage any woman with choral experience, music-reading ability, and a love of good music and spirited company to audition!
Auditions for the 2017 - 2018 season are open to all female voice parts. Auditions include vocalization, pitch-matching and sight-reading excersises. Singers are asked to prepare a song to sing; this need not be a formal aria or art song and need not be memorized, but should demonstrate vocal quality, technique, and musicality. (Please note that there will not be an accompanist at the audition.)
All auditions are by appointment only. To schedule an audition, please call the OCWC at (949) 451-8590 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please tell us what voice part you sing and include a brief description of your prior vocal/choral experience.
We rehearse on Tuesday evenings, 7:15-9:45pm, at Newport Harbor Lutheran Church in Newport Beach, with three major concerts per year, and smaller performances along the way. Our members enjoy social gatherings and dinners out, too, and friendships flourish along with great music-making.
Directed by Eliza Rubenstein and comprising more than 40 women of all ages and backgrounds, the OCWC has gained a reputation for creative and ambitious programming, high musical standards, and energetic performances of everything from classical masterworks to vocal jazz to broadway and opera. Recent performances have taken the group to the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, the Irvine Barclay Theatre, Walt Disney Concert Hall's REDCAT Theater, and the western division conference of the American Choral Director's Association.
Chorus members include teachers, professors, business executives, entrepreneurs, attorneys, students, artists, mothers and grandmothers. Our singers come from 21 communities in Orange County as well as four in Los Angeles county. We come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences but are bound by our love of choral music and the shared experience of creating it together.
